White Rose Maths
In Maths we will be extending our understanding of pattern by making our own together and individual, we will be extending our subitising skills to include numbers up to and including 5 and we will develop our matching, sorting and comparing skills.
Geography/ History
We will begin to explore the concept of other countries existing in the world as well as highlighting some differences from the past and the present.
Science
We will be exploring the changes in states of matter and talking about what we observe. We will also be discussing about all the animals we see on our zoo trip!

We will be continuing to learn about different emotions and discuss how we feel in more depth. We will be learning about UK Armed Forces Day for our SMSC focus.

Summer 1

Goldilocks and the three bears. The children will fully immerse themselves into this story throughout summer 1, they will have extended conversations about the book, characters and plot and will be retelling the story themselves,

We will be continuing to learn about subitising and then moving on to comparing and sorting different collections. Finally, we will look at line and repeating patterns.
Geography/ History
We will be ordering pictures of before, now and after by looking at the past and the present.
Science
We will be planting and caring for our own plants, learning how to take care of a plant and what they need to survive whilst exploring the key features of their life-cycle.

We will discuss special places such as homes, school and church and talk about which places are special to Christians on our SMSC day learning about ST Georges day.

In nursery we will be continue to extend our pretend play by acting out known stories by dressing up, as well as engaging in small world roleplay to retell different fairy tales. We will be exploring how to join and explore a variety of textures and materials.

Spring 2

The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the journey of a caterpillar as it transforms into a beautiful butterfly. The simplicity of the text, combined with the vibrant and colourful illustrations captures the imagination of young readers, encouraging them to explore the wonders of nature and the concept of growth and change.
White Rose Maths
We will be starting to explore shapes and how they can be used in patterns. In number we will start to learn how to identify a group and then take out a certain number using 1:1 correspondence. Finally, we will explore routes and position.
Geography/ History
We will be exploring the country of England looking at maps and where England is and how this also relates on a globe identifying what is sea and what is land.
Science
We will be focusing on learning about life cycles particularly that of a butterfly. We will also look at the world of minibeasts as a whole.

We will be looking at healthy foods alongside our story to compare the foods the caterpillar ate. Towards the end of the term we will be looking at the celebration of Easter and our SMSC day this half-term will be exploring Eid al Fir.

We will continue to explore ways of using paint with different tools to create butterfly pictures and use objects to represent something else. We will make a simple model of the life cycle of the butterfly and also explore some new musical instruments.

Spring 1

A Superhero Like You - Lily knows exactly what she wants to be when she grows up: a superhero! But she's not interested in being a silly superhero. She doesn't want to wear her pants outside her trousers! Lily wants to be a REAL superhero: the kind who helps people and makes the world a better place. We will follow Lily as she meets the extraordinary superheroes all around us, from doctors, teachers and air ambulance paramedics to scientists, recycling truck drivers and carers. Discover the amazing work these real-life heroes do using their incredible superpowers of kindness, care and love.

For maths this half term we will begin to look at numbers through nursery rhymes. Then we will be counting to 1, 2 and 3 as well as ordering and seeing if we can spot a group of up to 3 objects without counting. Finally, we will be exploring repeats and patterns further using the skills we have already learnt.
Geography/ History
We will be focusing on learning about the roles of all the people who help us in the community such as nurses, doctors, fire fighters and comparing new and old. We will continue our learning about the environment by taking a visit to the local park and recognising features we can see both there and on the way.
Science
We will be looking at different materials and how they can be used to create and change different creative ideas. In addition, we will be looking at simple push and pull forces as well as continuing our understanding of the daily weather and seasons.

As we continue Phase 2 phonics we will recap the phonemes s,a,t,p,i,n and how to blend sounds and read simple cvc words. We will move on to m,d,g,o,c,k.
Autumn 2
For the love of reading text
In Literacy, we will be focusing on ‘One Snowy Night’. We will be exploring the story and retelling it through role play. We will also be creating a story map for each section of the story to help us remember what happens. We will also be looking at describing a character and the setting in our own words and using our mark making skills.
White Rose Maths
In maths we will be learning how to count backwards and forwards to 3. Our learning will then move on to recognising sequences of 1, 2,3, finding them in stories and recognising that anything can be counted. We will end the half-term by looking at repeated actions in stories and songs.
Geography/ History
We will be looking at the school’s wooded area just like Percy the Park Keeper and how this fits in with our local environment. We will be comparing the different environments and discussing what we have seen.
Science
We will be exploring changes in matter such as water, ice and snow. We will also get to enjoy making some hot chocolate.

PSHE/RSE/ RE
This half term we will be focusing on our emotions, we will be identifying our own emotions and those of others. We will be linking this to our text and how the animals feel when they can’t fit in the bed.

We will make spikey hedgehogs using clay and sticks as well as using different natural materials as painting tools. To increase our music skills we will be listening to the sounds made by different materials and continue learning new songs for our Christmas Nativity.

Elmer follows the story of a patchwork elephant who doesn’t enjoy being different so plays a trick on his friends when he tuns himself grey.

We will be comparing small and large groups of objects as well as finding out about shapes and how they can be used to build. We will make simple line patterns and start simple counting saying number names in order.

We will looking at our home environment and also discussing our families and who our family members are.
