Autumn 2
For the love of reading text
In Literacy, we will be focusing on ‘One Snowy Night’. We will be learning the story with interest as we create a story map for each section alongside retelling the story through role-play. We will also be looking at describing a character and the setting in our own words and using our mark making skills.
White Rose Maths
In maths we will be learning how to count backwards and forwards to 3. Our learning will then move on to recognising sequences of 1.2.3, finding them in stories and recognising that anything can be counted. We will end the half-term by sorting shapes and objects in to simple categories.
Geography/ History
We will be looking at the school’s wooded area just like Percy the Park Keeper and how this fits in with our local environment.
Science
We will explore changes in matter such as water, ice and snow and enjoy making some hot chocolate.
Educational Visit
Visit to Wood Farm to see their Winter display and Santa
PSHE/RSE/ RE
We will be focusing on our emotions and those of others linking this to our text and how the animals feel when they can’t fit in the bed.
Art/ D & T/ Music
We will make spikey hedgehogs using clay and sticks as well as using different natural materials as painting tools. To increase our music skills we will be listening to the sounds made by different materials and continue learning new songs for our Christmas Nativity.

In phonics we will be continuing to embed our learning in PHASE 1 phonics and starting on PHASE 2 to learn our first initial sounds.
Autumn 1

‘The Three Little Pigs’
In Literacy we will be focusing on ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We will be exploring the text and using story maps to retell the story. We will be looking at setting descriptions, focusing on the different houses and what the wolf gets up to! We will be applying our phase 2 phonics in writing.
White Rose Maths
In Maths we will be using White Rose and their ‘small step’ ethos. We will be sorting, comparing and matching objects. We will be furthering our skills and knowledge around numbers 0 to 5. Looking at subitising, representing, finding one more and one less and looking at compositions of the numbers from 0 to 5 too.
Geography/ History / Understanding the World
This half term we will be understanding that we live in England and understand what it is like to live here.
We will relate traditional story settings and characters to their own life-story – changes over time.
Science / Understanding the world
We will be beginning to recognise the signs of Autumn and understanding the effects of changing seasons on the natural world around us by focusing on trees and how they change. We will observe these changes of the trees over the year.

PSHE/RSE/RE/PSED
We will be becoming more independent in meeting our own self care needs, including asking to go to the toilet and washing our own hands. We will be putting on our own coats and doing our own buttons and zips too.
We will look at where we belong, being special and we will discuss times that we have felt special.
We will look at what happens at a Christian baptism.
Art/ D & T/ Music/ EAD
The children will be use different tools to draw representations of people and objects – we will be looking at how we can incorporate different shapes to help us draw more accurately.
We will engage in imaginative role play based on experiences.
We will talk about music and how it makes us feel.

Spellings/ Reading
Each week our spellings and reading will directly link to the sounds we are teaching during phonics. We may repeat some spellings or reading books to allow children to confidently apply the phonics they have learnt. This half term we will be recapping phase 2 phonics using the All Aboard phonics scheme.
