The Tiger Who Came to Tea
White Rose Maths
In Maths this half term we will start by looking making compositions of numbers to 5 supporting us in solving real life problems. We will then move on to learning all about maps and routes, making our own linear maps and routes to follow! We will be making own AB patterns in a variety of ways. Then we will look at comparing numbers and forming numbers beyond 5.
Geography/ History
This half term we will be looking at using simple language to discuss the passage of time by making our own weather logs over the week. We will look at environmental features of different places, such as a zoo, farm and a beach. We will even go on a visit to the zoo to explore!
Science
We will learn to show an understanding of our natural world, living things and their habitats by looking at the different life cycle of animals such as a caterpillar. We will use the story ‘The hungry caterpillar’ to help us and even look after our own caterpillars, observing them as they turn into butterflies!
Educational Visit
This half term we will be visiting Chester Zoo.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
We will be continuing to build on our self-regulation skills by being aware of how our own feelings and showing responsibility for these feelings, using mood monsters to help us! We will show a responsibility for our own things to support our transition towards Reception and talk about what makes us a good friend.
Art/ D & T/ Music
In expressive arts we will be focusing be making lots of small worlds such as a zoo, by collaboratively deciding which materials would be best to use, such as construction blocks. We will explore colours and how this can be changed by drawing animals and people and using paint to change the colours we use.

Old Macdonald
White Rose Maths
In Maths this half term we will start by looking at position by describing the position of objects and following instructions. We will then move onto number where we will continue to look at numbers up to 5, moving onto to solving real life number problems. We will finish off by creating our own AB patterns.
Understanding the world Geography/ History
This half term we will be looking at the different environmental features of significant places, like our school farm! We will be exploring our local environment to recognise features such as churches and different types of houses as well as using images to examine how things change over time.
Understanding the world Science
We will be using tools to plant our own seeds, learning how to care for them as a living thing. We will also be visiting the school farm, looking at and naming the different farm animals we can see and discussing how to care for them.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
We will be continuing to build on our self-regulation skills by being aware of how others are feeling and learning to empathise. We will also grow our confidence by talking about what we are doing and show resilience when faced with new challenges.
Art/ D & T/ Music
In expressive arts we will be focusing more on producing our own ideas this half-term by creating collages using materials to represent objects and create spaces/small world areas using shapes and lines for defined areas. We will continue our discovery of musical instruments by exploring some new instruments and interpreting their sound.

We will be continuing to write a phase 2 CVC word, moving onto the writing a label or a caption with support.
In phonics we will be looking at ck, e, u, r, h, b and continuing to segment and blend CVC words.
We are going to be reading lots of rhyming stories and trying to spot and suggest rhymes.

Humpty Dumpty/ Jack and Jill
White Rose Maths
We will be recognising shapes in the environment through shape hunts around the school and naming 4 sided shapes. Then we are going to make our very own Humpty Dumpty pictures using the shapes we recognise and describing them. Counting and compositions from 1 -5. More and fewer.
Understanding the World - Geography/ History
This half term we will be taking interest in significant individuals including King Charles. What is his role? We will march like the Kings men! We will be considering passages of time when we discuss family routines.
Understanding the World - Science
This half term we will be taking part in a science experiment when we consider what might happen when a Humpty egg falls off the wall! We will then take our learning further when we cook Humpty! What will happen to the egg? Why will it change? We are so excited to find it.
Educational Visit
Telford Wonderland – exploring the world of rhyme!
PSHE/RSE/ RE
PSED - We will learn about how to identify emotions and consider how Humpty may have felt when he fell off the wall. We will become more aware of other children around and the choices that they make and in turn, we will increase our awareness of the need to follow simple rules. We will continue to interact with others and increase our confidence in the school setting including asking for help.
Art/ D & T/ Music
EAD – Experimenting with applying paint with a large brush using dabs, splodges an sweeping technique’s. We will be looking at different colours. We will be building Humpty’s wall by stacking blocks and building a bridge for the Kings men. Music – We will be playing the drums and marching like the Kings men as we respond to what we can hear.
PE day
We have being having so much fun learning sequences of movements and this half term we will continue to remember and develop these moves. We will use instruments to make our own music and we will consider the sound of different instruments. We will be naming colours and experiment with applying paint with a large brush. We will learn different techniques when painting including ‘dab’, ‘splodge’ and ‘sweep’!
Spellings/ Reading
Spelling Phase 2 words that contain SATPIN. Word reading and forming the letters using a five finger grasp – m, d, g, o, k, c and the tricky word ‘the’. In literacy, we will be focusing on ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘Jack and Jill’. We are very excited to sing and act out these rhymes. We will develop our understanding when we answer comprehension questions about the rhymes and our writing development will continue when we draw the characters and write character descriptions. We will even write our own storyboard once we have sequenced the rhyme!
Spring 1
People who help us
During this half term we will be immersing ourselves in the story ‘Topsy and Tim go to the Doctors’. We will be sitting and listening to the story, talking in full sentences about the characters.
For maths this half term we will begin to exploring size, height and length . Then we will explore the meaning of more and fewer and finally forming the numbers 1,2 and 3.
As part of the topic people who help us we will looking at the role of different people in the community. The children will be learning about the police, firefighters and lots of other community helpers. The children will finally be creating a clay fire engine
Autumn 2
Winter Woolies
During this half term we will be immersing ourselves in the story “One Snowy Night”. We will be sitting and listening to the story, talking in full sentences about the characters. We will also be creating a snowy setting discussing what we see.
For maths this half term we will begin to explore numbers through nursery rhymes singing together and discovering numbers through songs. Then we will explore numbers to 3, counting one item at a time. Finally we will be exploring shapes, discussing how they feel and finding shapes in the environment.
As part of the topic Winter Woollies we will look at seasons and weather. At home, please talk to your child about the changing seasons and what they notice. Small details such as how we dress for winter are great discussion points for younger children. During our PSED circle time we will be asking the children what family traditions or celebrations they have in winter time and what they do to celebrate them.
Autumn 1
All about me and the world we live in
Our topic during this half term will initially focus on ensuring that all children become settled, confident and aware of the routines and expectations within the nursery setting.
As we focus more on our topic we will be talking about ourselves and our families and getting to know our peers. The children will use all of their senses in hands-on exploration of natural materials. They will explore collections of materials with similar and/or different materials and they will be exposed to a wide range of new vocabulary to discuss what we have learnt. The children will also begin to make sense of their own life story and family’s history when we discuss who we live with. We will also discuss our friends’ family units and develop positive attitudes about the differences between people.
