Topic: The Great Fire of London

Our topic for the half term is ‘The Great Fire of London’. We are very lucky to be going on two visits. We will be visiting Ford Green Hall to learn more about Samuel Pepys and the history behind our topic. On our second trip, we will be spending an afternoon at Longton Fire Station which will involve the children taking a look around a working fire station, talking to firefighters and learning about fire safety. In English we will be retelling the story of the Great Fire of London and writing a diary pretending that we are Samuel Pepys. In Maths we be adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. We will also be multiplying in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Our role play has been transformed into our own Pudding Lane Bakery!

Topic: Fairy tales

This half term our topic will be 'Fairy tales'. We will be reading lots of traditional fairy tales. We will use adjectives to describe characters from our favourite fairy tales and to describe if they are good or bad characters. We will focus our writing on Jack and the Beanstalk and the children will be retelling the story.

Our fantastic role play area has been transformed into Jack's cottage and the enormous beanstalk tree is towering over the top of his home! We are very lucky to be ending our topic with a visit to see Jack and the Beanstalk in pantomime at Crewe Lyceum Theatre.

Topic: The Bog Baby

Welcome to Year One! Our topic for the half term is 'The Bog Baby'. Our fantastic role play area has been transformed into a swamp with lots of exciting activities. For our first brilliant educational visit we will be visiting Trentham Gardens. The children will experience the barefoot walk and look for the Bog Baby during our walk around the woods, lake and gardens! We will develop our English skills by writing a recount of this fun visit as well as retelling the story and writing character and setting descriptions using lots of adjectives.
