When the children arrive, they discover a trail of snowy footprints leading into the classroom. Following the mysterious tracks, they find a basket containing a hat, scarf and gloves, along with a letter from Percy the Park Keeper.

Reception
The Grufallo
Reception had a visitor in our classroom today! They left lots of clues around the room to help us guess who it could be! Some guesses were a dinosaur, a big cat, a big stick monster and The Gruffalo! We were detectives and found all the clues and discovered it was the Gruffalo! He left us a large picture for us to complete as a team. It was a great way to introduce our Love of Reading text.

Year 1
The Gingerbread Man
For our hook lesson today, Year 1 have made excellent predictions for our new book ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
We looked at the front cover, role play, discussed characters and even had a go at decorating some salt dough Gingerbread men ourselves! Hopefully our Gingerbread men won’t run away…

Year 2
Hansel and Gretel
When the children return from break, they notice a trail of breadcrumbs leading from the playground and winding mysteriously into the classroom. Curious, they follow the trail, discovering that it has been left by someone who seems to have been lost in the woods. Where do the breadcrumbs lead? Who left them behind? As the children investigate, they uncover clues that introduce them to the story of Hansel and Gretel and the adventure that awaits.

Year 3
Around The World in 80 Days
Our exciting Around the World in 80 Days adventure has begun! The children became book detectives, using clues from the cover and blurb to make predictions about the story and the incredible journey that lies ahead. They explored some of the fascinating destinations Phileas Fogg will visit, discovering a little about the places and cultures along the way. Inspired by India and its beautiful patterns, the children created their own decorated elephants, linking their artwork to the story. We can’t wait to discover where our literary adventure takes us next!

Year 4
The Wind in The Willows
Today, Year 4 received a mysterious letter from Rat, Badger and Toad explaining that Mole had gone missing! They urgently needed our help to find him. Following a series of clues around the classroom, we embarked on an exciting adventure that led us deep into the Wild Wood, where we discovered Mole hiding amongst the trees, terrified and alone. After rescuing Mole, we explored the front cover of The Wind in the Willows, creating freeze frames to bring the characters to life and sharing our predictions about what might happen next in this wonderful story.

Year 5
Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe Hook Lessons
As we prepare to step inside the wardrobe and discover the snow-covered world of Narnia, Year 5 were amazed to find that an explorer had left us some clues about the world that we were about to enter. A warm coat, compass and a letter were among items that the explorer left for us as well as half of a map that he needed our help to complete. We made predictions about why these items were needed and then completed a map of this new magical world.

Year 6
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief
The Mystery of the Missing Lightning Bolt!
Something mysterious has happened... and our Year 6 children have been called upon to investigate! As an exciting introduction to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, the children became detectives on a mission to uncover the truth behind a series of mysterious events. Armed with their iPads, the children embarked on a mystery hunt around school, searching for hidden pieces of evidence. Each clue revealed another part of the story, encouraging them to look closely, discuss their findings, make connections and piece together what might have happened.
Once all the evidence had been gathered, the children used their discoveries to inspire their very first cold letter write. They had to imagine themselves as Percy, responding to the extraordinary events unfolding around him.
