Reading Buddies
Our Reading Buddies in Years 3, 4 and 5 are positive reading role models for our KS1 and EYFS pupils. By sharing stories, listening to younger children read, and encouraging a love of books, our older pupils develop confidence, leadership and communication skills while helping to build the reading confidence of our youngest learners. These special reading partnerships create meaningful friendships, foster a love of reading across the school, and inspire children of all ages to enjoy books together.

Nursery - The Mysterious Footprints
Whose are those colourful footprints?
When the children arrive, they discover colourful elephant footprints leading to Elmer - but Elmer has lost all his colours! A letter from Elmer asks the children to help find them. The children become colour detectives, searching around the classroom for Elmer's missing colours.

Reception - Three Little Pigs
Reception had a super introduction to their story this morning. This half term, we are going to be retelling, acting out and writing a setting description about The Three Little Pigs. Today we went on a hunt to find materials to build some houses, just like the pigs! We built the houses and tested which was the strongest by huffing and puffing and trying to blow them down! Which do you think was the strongest?
Year 1 - Bog Baby
During today’s hook lesson, Year 1 have been exploring the clues around the classroom to help them make predictions about our new for the love of reading text ‘The Bog Baby’. We found a bucket full of shells, fishing nets and a jam jar with a mysterious blue jelly like blob inside… we think we have found a Bog Baby! After our investigation of the clues, we got predicting Pip to help us write some super predictions for the story.

Year 2 - Selfish Giant
When the children arrive, they discover a mysterious barrier stretching across the classroom, complete with a “TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED” sign. They must not cross it or look beyond it — but a giant footprint appears to suggest that something very unusual has been in the classroom...

Year 3 - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Our new English adventure began in the sweetest way possible! To hook us into our class text, *Charlie and the Chocolate Factory*, we transformed into Willy Wonka's apprentice chocolatiers and created our very own delicious Rice Krispie chocolate cakes. The children carefully measured, mixed and decorated their treats while following instructions and working brilliantly together. This tasty experience sparked lots of excitement and curiosity, leaving everyone eager to step through the factory gates and begin our magical journey with Charlie, Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas!

Year 4 - Matilda Hook Lesson
Today we stepped into the characters of Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey through role play, hot-seating and Magic Mic activities. We used our inference skills to identify the characters from clues and then sketched our ideas. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore two main characters from Matilda. We are now keen to read the story and begin our character descriptions.

Year 5 - How to Train your Dragon Hook Lesson
As we began our new Love of Reading text ‘How to Train your Dragon,’ Year 5 were amazed to discover dragon footprints and scales were scattered around the classroom! In a small corner, we also discovered that 4 eggs had been left behind. We used our investigation skills to infer who had been to visit and who the eggs might belong to. We believe a dragon may have stumbled upon our classroom and left them behind! We decided that a Viking was needed to either help keep us safe or to show us how to train the baby dragons once they hatch and so designed our own Viking.
