For the love of reading text


The Tiger Who Came to Tea follows the story of Sophie and her mum as they have a tiger visit for tea and then what happens as he eats all their food and drinks all their water.

We will be starting our last session on shape and pattern as well as moving on to a solid understanding of counting to 5. We will end with looking at comparisons of objects.

Geography/ History


We will be investigating the differences between an old and new kettle and also looking at some features of countries in Asia.

Science


We will become immersed in the animal kingdom as part of our visit to the zoo and also look at changes in states of matter.


Educational Visit

PSHE/RSE/ RE


We will be looking our feelings and how these are reflected in stories as well as looking at the bible and a special story. Our SMSC day will be based on Shavout.

Art/ D & T/ Music


We will be focusing on drawing with more detail and also using more complex construction kits to build small world scenes.

PE day


Friday PM. We will be taking part in sports day practice and then team games and perfected our skills at getting changed into our kit.

Spellings/ Reading


We will finish learning phase 2 with the sounds f, l and double consonant sounds. We will work hard on spotting rhymes and spelling from memory with confidence.

Summer 1

Goldilocks and the Three Bears follows the story of Goldilocks as she enters into the house whilst the bears are out and tries their porridge, chairs and beds until she is discovered fast asleep by the bears…

We will be continuing to learn about subitising and then moving on to comparing and sorting collections. Finally we will look at some simple line and repeating patterns.

Geography/ History


We will be investigating past and present and what it means to sequence events such as how we have changed from a baby to now.

Science


We will become keen gardeners this half term and be growing seeds and learning how to care for our plants.

PSHE/RSE/ RE


We will be looking at places which are important such as school, home and church. Our SMSC day this half-term will be focusing on Red Cross Day.

Art/ D & T/ Music


We will be using our imagination to explore and join different textures and materials. We will be developing our skills by doing some pictures of our seeds.

PE day


Wednesday PM. We will be taking part in group activities and working in teams as well as increasing our confidence with changing our clothes.

Spellings/ Reading


We will continue with Phase 2 and learn ck, e,u,r,h,b and continue to practice segmenting and blending. We will continue to develop our spelling practice.

Spring 2

A superhero like you
Lily knows exactly what she wants to be when she grows up, a superhero just like her Mum who is a Doctor! Lily goes on a journey describing all the different ways in which she could be a superhero who doesn’t need to wear their pants on the outside! From doctors, teachers and recycling truck drivers, Lily looks at all the amazing things these people do to help others and aspires to be herself!

White Rose Maths


We will be starting to explore shapes and how they can be used in patterns. In number we will start to learn how to identify a group and then take out a certain number using 1:1 correspondence. Finally we will explore routes and position.

Geography/ History


We will be exploring the country of England looking at maps and where England is and how this also relates on a globe identifying what is sea and what is land.

Science


We will be focusing on learning about life cycles particularly that of a butterfly. We will be looking after our very own caterpillars and watching as they progress through their life cycle until we can release them as butterfly’s. We will also look at the world of minibeasts as a whole.

PSHE/RSE/ RE


We will be looking at healthy foods alongside our story to compare with the foods the caterpillar ate. We will towards the end of the term be looking at the celebration of Easter and our SMSC day this half-term will be exploring Ramadan.

Art/ D & T/ Music


We will continue to explore ways of using paint with different tools to create butterfly pictures and use objects to represent something else. We will make a simple model of the life cycle of the butterfly and also explore some new musical instruments.

PE day


Our PE Day will be on a Friday where we will be following more complex sequences to music learning different ways to move as well as increasing our confidence with changing our clothes.

Spellings/ Reading


We will be looking at m, d, g, o, k, c and developing our Phase 2 knowledge. We will be looking at voice sounds and beginning to blend CVC words. We will also be suggesting and spotting rhymes.

This half term, our PSED focus will be looking at expressing preferences and decisions. We will be willing to try new things and start establishing their own autonomy. In RE we will be looking at special needs and disabilities, religions and cultures. We will be asking questions like Who is your superhero? Who do Christians think created the World. For SMSC day we will be looking at Burns Night.

Art
We will be using our imaginations to consider what to do with different materials as we make a junk model of a fire engine and a city for the superheroes to fly around. We will be dancing to music and making rhythmical and repetitive sounds as we take part in action songs! We will be taking part in pretend play by dressing up as our favourite superheroes.

PE day


Our PE Day will be on a Friday where we will be using and remembering sequences to music, using flags, streamers and ribbons to help us create large movements.

Autumn 2

This half term we will be immersing ourselves into the world of Percy the Park keeper by reading the story ‘One Snowy Night’ by Nick Butterworth. We will describing the snowy setting through story mapping and lots of hands on activities!

In Maths this half term we will be continuing to look at hearing and saying number names before moving on to ordering numbers and subitising. We will be counting forwards and backwards!

Geography/ History


This half term we will be showing an understanding of the world by describing the environment around us – our school! We will go on adventures around the school grounds to see what we can find!

Science


We will learning to show an understanding of how go respect and care for the natural environment and living things by exploring the local area and the school grounds. We will take part in fun activities such as making a bird feeder that we can then add to the school gardens. We will be looking at the changing weather and how Percy feels in the cold snow!

We will be looking at expressing our own ideas, likes and dislikes throughout the school day such as snack and dinner time. We will be playing alongside our friends and building on creating positive relationships and being positive about the differences between us all.

Art/ D & T/ Music


In expressive arts we will be expressing our ideas and feelings. We will be using a range of materials such as clay to make a hedgehog. We will be going on woodland walks to collect our own materials and use them in our creations, such a using a stick as a paintbrush or spikes on our hedgehogs!

We will be reading to show an understanding of the story by listening and responding to the pictures and words, knowing that print has meaning. We will be joining in with songs and rhymes, copying the sounds, rhythms, tunes and tempos leading us to sing rhymes more independently.

Autumn 1

White Rose Maths


In Maths this half term we will start by looking at more, less and fewer. We will gather different collections of objects and compare. We will be having a tea party and comparing the amounts of foods before and after they have been eaten! We will then move onto exploring with shapes and objects before exploring repeats in patterns with musical instruments and rhymes. We will then begin to look at hearing and saying number names.

Geography/ History


This half term we will be showing an understanding of the world by looking at our own family history. We will look at our own family photos and share them with the class. We will be looking at different environments such as the home and the school. We will go on environment walks around the school and create our own houses using the large constructions materials!

Science


We will learn to show an understanding of our natural world by looking at different objects, comparing their texture. We will do this by exploring sand, paint, glitter, water and more!

PSHE/RSE/ RE


We will be building on our self regulation skills by learning the classroom rules and showing an understanding of what is expected of us. We will access the small world schools to role play and use our imagination. We will take on roles and responsibilities within the classroom such as the fruit monitor, jobs on the farm and the role play monitor. We will be building relationships within the classroom with our peers and staff, using the role play to model playing with our friends.

Art/ D & T/ Music


In expressive arts we will be engaging in lots of singing, moving to music and imaginative play. We will be working collaboratively to construct houses with big blocks. We will be creating with materials and exploring with mark making, using lots of different tools such a paint brushes, cotton buds and more. We will use our arm, finger and wrist muscles to make marks.

We will be reading to enjoy and decode. We will be enjoying reading stories together and sharing our ideas. We will be singing lot of songs and rhymes and begin to repeat some words from them, such as The Wheels on the Bus , Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and Hello, How are you? to name a few.
