Far, far away in the high, high mountains in a deep, deep valley in a dark, Dark cave, there lived a mighty dragon. He had fiery breath, a ferocious tail and monstrous wings, and was afraid of nothing. Well, he was afraid of one small thing…

This half term we will be learning about statistics and position and direction.
Geography/ History
Our topic this half term will be History based – Kings and Queens! We will be asking the key question – How have Kings and Queens impacted Britain? We will be learning about the lives of some of the most significant Kings and Queens, and understanding the English reformation. We will then be going on to look at comparing aspects of life in Tudor Britain and Victorian Britain. To finish off we will be making a timeline of important British Monarchs from Henry VIII to modern day.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is animals including humans. We will be learning about the importance of
exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene for humans.
Educational Visit
We do not have an educational visit for this topic.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PSHE we will be looking at how we can recognise our feelings. We will be recognising and naming a range of feelings and understanding what makes us feel good. We will be looking at how we can manage our feelings and understanding that we can share our feelings with a trusted adult.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What makes some places sacred to believers?’. We will be recognising that there are special places where people go to worship and understanding why some people like to belong to a sacred building or community.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcimboldo. Children will be experimenting by arranging, repeating, overlapping, regular and irregular pattern and using overlapping and overlaying to create effects.
In D&T we are starting our topic on cooking and nutrition and focussing on a balanced diet. The children will be learning about the food groups to understand a balanced diet to develop a healthy wrap.
Our song for this half term is ‘Reflect, Rewind and Replay’. We will be looking over everything we have learnt throughout the year.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focussing on throwing and catching, cool core (strength) and relationships with others.

Little Evie in the Wild Wood by Jackie Morris
Little Evie ventures into the wild woods with her basket of jam tarts and walks further and further into the trees, far from home. In a deep dark cave she finds a huge wolf. The wolf comes closer and closer and then Evie and the wolf share the tarts, sitting on the grass
Children will be writing a narrative in the first person and nocturnal animal descriptions.

This half term we will be learning about fractions and time.
Geography/ History
Our topic this half term will be History based – Our Local Heroes! We will be asking the key question - Who are our local heroes? We will be learning about the lives of some of the most significant people in the history of our locality. We will use a range of sources for evidence. Our final aim is to create a mini museum dedicated to the people that we have studied.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is plants. We will be observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will be finding out and describing what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
Educational Visit
We will be going to Standon Bowers for a 2 day residential, where we will have the opportunity to try many new activities.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us grow and stay healthy.
We will be looking at the importance of what we eat, the amount of sleep we need and keeping safe in the sun.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What does it mean to belong to a faith community?’ We will be exploring ways in which we belong in a community.
Art/ D & T/ Music

Flat Stanley ‘Flat Again’- Jeff Brown
Stanley is back and he is flat again. Even his brother Arthur can’t come up with a plan to re-inflate Stanley this time. Children will be writing a diary entry as if they are Stanley, a narrative in the first person and poetry focusing on riddles.

This half term we will be learning about Length and height and Mass, capacity and temperature.
Geography/History
In this Geography unit, the children be looking at our big question—What does our landscape look like? We will be looking at the physical geography of the UK’s beaches, cliffs, coasts, seas, oceans hills, mountains, forests, valleys, rivers, and vegetation. We will also identify and describe the world’s highest mountain and the major rivers in different continents of the world.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is habitats. We will be learning about and comparing the difference between habitats and micro-habitats by observing the natural world.
Educational Visit
We will be visiting Deep Hayes Country Park to observe and identify the physical features of our surroundings.
PSHE/RSE/RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us to stay safe. We will be looking at staying safe at home, school, and the community. In RE we will be looking at ‘what is the good news Christians believe Jesus brings?’ We will be exploring ways in which Christians try to bring Jesus to others and talking about forgiveness.
Art/D & T/Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Clarice Cliff’. Children will be making and decorating their own clay pots inspired by Clarice Cliff. In D&T we are continuing our topic on mechanisms. The children will be making and evaluating their own moving monster. Our song for this half term is ‘Zoo time’. In the style of reggae by Joanna Mangona.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focusing on ball skills and gymfit circuits.

Spring 1
Our Wonderful World
Our topic this half term is 'Our Wonderful World' and we will be asking where we would like to live. The children will be looking at cities, towns and villages and identifying the human key features. We will also use maps and atlases to explore and identify key features of harbours and ports in the United Kingdom.
Our English focus this half term is ‘Traction Man is Here’. We will be learning how to write a character description and we will be writing our own adventure stories.
In Maths we be learning about multiplication and division.
Autumn 2
The Great Fire of London
Our topic this half term is a History based topic - Great Fire of London. We will be asking the key questions - How did the Great Fire of London start? What happened during The Great Fire of London? Why did the fire spread so quickly? Why do we know so much about the Great Fire? What consequences were there from the fire? Could the Great Fire of London have been prevented?
Our English focus this half term is ‘Little Polar Bear and the Big Balloon’. We will be investigating the story characters and writing non-chronological reports about each animal. Later we will be writing instructions.
In Maths, we will be learning about addition and subtraction and properties of shape.
Autumn 1
What are seasons?
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic - Seasons. We will be asking the key question - ‘What are our seasons and the weather like around the world?’ and will be looking at seasonal daily weather patterns in the UK. We will begin to explore the world and why some countries are hotter or colder than others. We will then link this to more daily weather changes around the world. In Science we will learn about animals including humans.
Our English focus this half term is ‘The Selfish Giant’. We will be looking at different elements such as the characters and the setting, and then sequencing and writing the story. We will also be writing letters to the giant and other characters in the story. In Maths we will be learning about number and place value, addition and subtraction.
