Topic: An Eye on London

During English we will be writing a persuasive letter for the position of a nanny, creating a non-chronological report of London and writing a diary entry from a character's point of view. In math we will be extending our knowledge of number, fractions, properties of shape and measurement. In addition to this, we will be challenging ourselves in the topic of position and direction. As part of our geography topic we will be explaining why people are attracted to the city of London, whilst describing its main features and attractions.

As part of our science and design & technology topic we will be identifying the different components of a simple electrical circuit and using this to create a 3D model of Big Ben with an illuminated clock face. Our creative curriculum continues into researching greatest artists, architects and designers in history to create our own artistic montage. It extends to our computing objectives in which we will design and write programs to accomplish a specific goal.

Topic: Stig of the Dump

During English we will be exploring narrative story writing and diaries, which will include imaginary settings. In Math we will be extending and challenging ourselves within the number topic, specifically learning how to tackle metal calculations. In addition to this, we will be investigating properties of shape, volume and capacity, as well as revisiting time and statistics.

As part of Geography we will be looking at human and physical characteristics and how these have changed over time, as well as designing our very own locality. As part of our Science work, we will be investigating the human body, with specific focus of the digestive system and our teeth. Our creative curriculum continues into Design & Technology with the children planning a healthy sandwich and creating a greenhouse from their own designs.

Topic: Titanic

This half term Y4 will be boarding the ill-fated Titanic for an exciting journey into the past and the deep icy sea. We will be visiting the Liverpool Titanic Maritime Museum to learn all about the ship and will be delving into history to find out what happened and who was to blame!

We will be reading biographies of passengers and crew members that survived or died on that fateful night. We will then use the information/facts that we have learnt, to become journalists who investigate the truth about the sinking of the Titanic. In maths we will be looking at time, money and problem solving. Then moving onto the four operations which will involve money. During science lessons we will investigate sound and how it is made. We will be making string telephones to explore how sound travels long distances.

During English we will be exploring Mystery and Suspense story writing, Formal letter writing and Instruction writing. In Math we will be extending and challenging ourselves within the number topic, specifically learning how to tackle word problems, fractions and converting between analogue and digital time. As part of Geography we will be looking at different types of maps including aerial and ordinance, as well as plotting a route to take for a specific journey. As part of our Science work we will be investigating living things and how they can be grouped using classification keys. Topic: The Radical Romans

Welcome to Year 4! This half term our topic will be 'The Radical Romans'. We will be looking at two new texts in English, with a focus of newspaper and persuasive writing. In Maths we will be strengthening our knowledge of place value and calculation as well as learning Roman Numerals.

During the afternoon sessions, we will be creating Roman mosaic art. Additionally, we will be looking at where the Romans settled in Geography and put our research into a timeline in History. To enhance our learning and understanding of the Romans, we will be visiting the Dewa Roman Museum in Chester.
